Our Secret Seals Tour is a very special wildlife experience at a remote seal colony on the spectacular south coast, not far from Sea Dragon Lodge & Villas. The tour is exclusive to Sea Dragon Lodge guests and is as close to a “Galapagos style” experience as you will find in Australia. The seal colony is on private property, so guests enjoy the privilege of viewing hundreds of wild animals up close and personal, without the distraction of any other tourists. Most guests who have been on this tour, rate it as one of the best wildlife experiences they have had.
You need to be fit enough to walk up and down a steep track. After we finish viewing the animals, refreshments are served on cliffs with stunning views overlooking the Southern Ocean. Whales are sometimes spotted in winter months.
This tour can be extended to a half day by including lunch at the spectacular Dudley Wines Cellar Door.
Duration: 3 hours (5 hours with Dudley Lunch inclusion)
Inclusions: Exclusive Use of 4WD Vehicle, Private Guide/Driver, Bottle of wine and nibbles to share.
The seal colony has up to 800 long-nosed fur seals that use this location as their home. We regularly see between 200 to 400 animals at any one time, so there is always something interesting happening in this busy wildlife colony. The seals are here all year round. Pups are born in December and January and depend heavily on their mothers for the first 5-7 months of their lives. They make a very cute spectacle as they chase each other around while waiting for mum to come with a feed of milk. Large bulls can be seen fighting to protect their female harems during mating season in December and January. Australian sea lions are also regularly seen resting in this area.
